Sr. Joan Dawber, SC, LifeWay Network’s founder and executive director, received the Caritas Medal at St. John’s University’s Vincentian Convocation on September 25, 2014.

The Caritas Medal celebrates Sr. Joan’s deep commitment to helping others. Each year, it is presented to an individual or organization that provides exemplary service to the poor within the city of New York. As the executive director of LifeWay Network, Sr. Joan works tirelessly to bring an end to human trafficking and help survivors reclaim their lives. Of her efforts, Sr. Joan has said, “I believe that it’s only in trusting in God and desiring to be an agent of change that change happens. We commit ourselves to work to eradicate this global human rights violation and to affirm the dignity of all human beings.”

Dr. Gempesaw, President of the University, congratulated Sr. Joan and the evening’s other award recipients.  LifeWay Network wishes to acknowledge the work of these individuals and extends its congratulations to: Susan Gordan Ryan, recipient of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Medal; Jean Baptiste Tropnas, M.D., recipient of the St. Vincent de Paul Medal; Linda M. Sama, Ph.D., recipient of the Vincentian Mission Award; and Rev. John E. Rybolt, C.M., Ph.D., recipient of the Degree of Doctor of Laws and presenter of the Vincentian Chair of Social Justice Lecture.
