Pax Christi Metro New York honored Sister Joan S. Dawber, Founder and Executive Director of LifeWay Network, with the Sister Christine Mulready Peacemaker Award at its 2015 Peacemaker Awards Reception on June 7, 2015. This award is presented to a person whose work for peace and justice is helping to transform metropolitan New York into a community of peacemakers and justice-seekers.
One of the other honorees is also a familiar face at LifeWay Network. Joseph Dirr, a LifeWay volunteer who does pro bono consulting for nonprofits (including Pax Christi), advising on finances and strategic planning, was a recipient of the Pax Christi Metro New York Service Award .
Other honorees were Maureen Blaine, Principal of St. Leo’s Elementary School, Pax Christi volunteer Jill Frasier, and high school students who received Maloof Family Young Peacebuilder awards – Mariah Espada, Joseph Grasso, and Juan Moreno.
Pax Christi Metro New York (PCMNY) educates and advocates for peace and social justice locally and globally through prayer, study, and action. PCMNY membership includes individuals and groups centered in parishes or school campuses, vowed religious, and lay people. It is a regional branch of Pax Christi USA, which is itself a section of Pax Christi International, the global Catholic peace movement with consultative status at the United Nations. It is active in more than fifty countries and five continents.
