Press Release: NEW YORK, NY (July 7, 2019)
LifeWay Network, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the fight against human trafficking by providing safe housing, education and mentoring, has named Marion Kendall, M.S.W., as its next Executive Director after a search process led by its Board of Directors. Ms. Kendall will succeed founding Executive Director, Sr. Joan Dawber, on July 15, 2019.
Ms. Kendall brings a wealth of experience to LifeWay Network in the areas of program education, and leadership. Prior to her new appointment, Ms. Kendall served as Director of Social Work for Citadel Care Center at Kingsbridge in the Bronx, NY, where she worked closely with administrators, staff, and government agencies to bring vital services to a wide range of populations.
“Marion has a strong social services background and extensive experience working with vulnerable populations,” says Sr. Joan Dawber. “In exploring this opportunity with her, it was clear that she is deeply committed to our vision of a world where every survivor of human trafficking is strong, connected and free. I am confident that she will drive and further build upon our mission with integrity, passion, empathy, and courage.”
Ms. Kendall’s desire to apply her proven management skills at a high level of advocacy drew her to this opportunity to help LifeWay Network continue to grow and thrive. She is a believer in empowering both the survivors of human-trafficking themselves, as well as her staff in supporting them.
Prior to her role at Citadel Care Center at Kingsbridge, Ms. Kendall assumed multiple concurrent roles as a Clinical Team Leader at Help USA and the Director of Social Work at University Nursing Home. She also taught for 11 years at Burke and Montessori Garden, both in White Plains, NY.
Ms. Kendall holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from Columbia University, a Master’s of Education from Columbia University, a B.S.W. in Generalist Social Work Practice, and a M.S.W. in Gerontology from Yeshiva University. She is currently a PhD candidate in Social Welfare at Yeshiva University.
The search committee members, led by Marianne Mocarski (Search Committee Chair) and Anne Green (Board Chair), extend their thanks to the Board of Directors, Sr. Joan Dawber, the LifeWay Network staff, and the entire LifeWay Network community for their support during the search process.
Sr. Joan Dawber remarked, “It has been a privilege to lead LifeWay Network for the past 12 years. We have worked tirelessly in the fight against human trafficking and yet there is still so much to be done.”
